Education and Teaching
Priority has always been given to teaching in our university, including the training of high-level faculty, the promotion of teaching quality and investments in the improvement of teaching as well as learning environment. Our university consists of 1056 teachers, of whom 409 are professors and associate professors, 130 with Ph D, 26 awarded the special allowance from The State Council in China. In addition, three teachers are honored with “National Outstanding Teachers”, six “Liaoning Outstanding Teachers”, four “Liaoning Outstanding Experts”. Credit system is carried out here, under which students are free to pursue self-study, take inter-disciplinary and cross-major courses with their favorite teachers and schedules. In 2007, excellence was achieved here in the national assessment on the Undergraguate Teaching by the Ministry of Education.
Our university is student-oriented, dedicated to the deepening of teaching reform to improve teaching quality; to quality education in its full sense, characterized by the emphasis on “cultivation of qualified and adaptable students”; to the constant enrichment and development of the “talent-cultivation mode”— to highlight engineering education, engineering and social practice. In recent years, great achievements are obtained in such aspects as talent-cultivation mode, teaching management mode, teaching syllabus, teaching methodology as well as curriculum reform. Our research and practice in credit system reform has been awarded the second prize in 2005 National-Level Teaching Achievement Award, followed by 24 prizes of Liaoning Teaching Achievement Awards, 13, “the Tenth Five-Year Program” Teaching Achievement Prizes in scientific research of Liaoning Province, and 45, school-level achievement awards since 2000. At present, priority lies in the promotion of reform and practice of the cultivation mode, with design as the direction, training on the competence in practice as the focus.
On the whole, teaching quality is as precious as our life here. The promotion of teaching project has exerted considerably positive impacts upon the improvement of teaching quality.
Currently, the two majors of Mechanical Design and Automation, Detection Guidance and Control Technology are selected as the nationwide characteristic majors of the fourth batch and second batch respectively; Mechanical Design and Automation, Detection Guidance and Control Technology and Material Formation and Control Engineering are selected the model majors of Liaoning Province; Mechanical Design, Metal Corrosion Science, Introduction to Modern Physics, Plating Process, College English, Principle of Material Formation, Intensive Russian, Management Information System, Technical Economics, The Basic Principles of Maxism, etc. are selected as excellent courses of Liaoning Province; College English, Mechanical Design, Plastic Mold and Molding are selected as model teaching team of Liaoning Province; Material Processing and Performance Testing, Mechanical Engineering Experimental Teaching Center are approved as Experimental Teaching Center of Liaoning Province.
